In this post we will be learning how to write a great article. In the second part of your exam task you are given a choice between a story and article. You don’t have to write both of them.
The good news is that you don’t need to choose the topic or think of some questions that should be answered. All you need is included in your exam task.
Read it carefully and follow the instructions.
Don’t wait to be inspired! You will get inspired at the moment you begin to write. To make it easier, remind yourself that you should write 100 words only.
Let’s have a closer look.
This is how your exam task looks like.
Articles wanted!
My favourite city
What’s your favourite city?
What’s so special about this city?
What city would you love to travel to in the future?
Tell us what you think!
Write an article answering these questions and we will publish the mos interesting ones on our website.
There are three questions to answer. Let’s tell what we think! You should express your personal opinion.
My favourite city is Malaga because it’s so exciting to live here. This place gave the world Picasso and many other famous people. It’s also full of surprises.
Malaga is a city of variety! It’s full of historical spots. There are many beautiful buildings that will amaze you at the moment you see them. There are dozens of restaurants which serve traditional Spanish food. If you are a big fan of French, Italian or Japanese cuisine, you will find your place to enjoy. You can find all kinds of people, too. There is something for everyone.
I would love to travel to Canberra in Australia in the future because I’ve heard a lot of amazing things about this country and I’m into ballet. It’s always great to travel to places you have never been before.
As you can see, the first paragraph answers the first question and gives a reason to explain your opinion. The second paragraph gives more details and answers the second question in the exam task. The third paragraph is about a city the writer would like to go to.
To make your article more interesting, use adjectives: attractive, amazing, fascinating, convenient, brilliant.
Don’t forget about linking words and phrases:
And but so because although also as well
Examples:
Malaga might be very crowded in the summer, although you can always find calm places to relax.
Many hotel workers speak English and also a little German.
Use an introductory sentence for each paragraph to draw the reader’s attention:
Malaga is a city of variety. A good job should be inspiring. Travelling around the world can broaden your horizons.
Don’t forget to use phrasal verbs (take up, be into, get around) and avoid repetitions as much as you can. You can always look up synonyms.
Correct punctuation is very important. Don’t forget commas.
If you are not interested in museums, don’t bother going to historical places when they are swarming with tourists.
Avoid writing too long sentences. Divide them with full stops.
Bad example:
Malaga is a city of variety, it’s full of historical spots, there are many beautiful buildings that will amaze you the moment you see them and there are dozens of restaurants which serve traditional Spanish food.
It’s very important to check the spelling when you finish writing.
Malga is a city of verriaety. it is ful of histrocal plases.
Don’t forget to enjoy your writing!
